Save Time by Using Your Personal Tax Account

13/11/2016 10:03 am

Did you know that you can conveniently do your taxes using HMRC’s Personal Tax Account? Over a million of tax payers in the country are already using it and they claim it to be as easy as online banking. If you want to learn more about it, continue reading.

All information in one place

After creating an account (you will find out how to do it at the end of this post) you can easily check your records, fill in and submit your tax documents and update your personal information any time. This will save you a lot of your time as you will no longer have to contact HMRC by phone or email. Also, you will be receiving reminders about upcoming deadlines to your profile’s inbox, which means that you will never forget to submit your tax return (say goodbye to penalties!).

Main services

Currently HMRC is providing more than 30 different services on Personal Tax Account and the list is growing. Here are some of the things that you can do on your profile today:

  • check your Income Tax estimate and tax code;
  • fill in, send and view your personal tax return;
  • claim a tax refund;
  • check and manage your tax credits;
  • check your State Pension;
  • track tax forms that you’ve submitted online;
  • check or update your Marriage Allowance;
  • tell HMRC about a change of address;
  • check or update benefits you get from work, e.g. company car details and medical insurance;
  • and many more.

New services

Starting summer 2016 you can also use your Personal Tax Account to check PAYE tax and see if you have overpaid or underpaid tax. If you have overpaid it, HMRC will transfer the money straight to your account after you have provided the details on your Personal Tax Account.

In the nearest future, HMRC is also planning to enable payments online, claiming flat rate expenses and checking employment history.

How to start using Personal Tax Account?
